THIS IS A BRAND NEW 69th. NEW YORK IRISH BRIGADE CIVIL WAR FLAG. IT IS HIGH QUALITY, HEAVY SEWN COTTON REPLICA FLAG WITH BRASS GROMMETS. THE FLAG MEASURES 3 FEET BY 5 FEET. OUR COTTON FLAGS ARE COMPLETELY SEWN. We recommend that all cotton flags be flown on fair days or indoors. Many of our sewn cotton flags have the primary pattern only on one side, if this is a concern please ask. HISTORY: The Regimental flags were of deep green, having in the center a Irish harp, with a sunburst above it and a wreath of shamrock beneath, underneath, on a crimson scroll, in Irish characters, was the motto, "they shall never retreat from the charge of lances." Each flag bore the numerical designation of its respective regiment. In 1862 at the battle of Fredericksburg the Irish Brigade composed of the 63rd, 69th, and the 88th. New York, the 28th. Massachusetts and the 116th Pennsylvania. On December 13, the Irish Brigade would make one of the bloodiest assaults of the war.
