Your are bidding on an 7-Pc Silverplate Buffet Food Warmer handcrafted by Otto Wolter, a well-known German silversmith from Schwabisch Gmund, just east of Stuttgart, Germany. Otto Wolter and Company has been producing high quality sterling silver tableware since the early 1900s. The Buffet Food Warmer dates 'pre-1940' and was purchased at an estate auction in Dusseldorf , Germany in 1976. It has been gently used and is in excellent ++ condition with no dents, no monograms or monogram removal, no repairs or other problems of any kind. This serving piece consists of (7) pieces starting with the 'outer frame' which is actually a chafing dish. It sits atop four curved legs ornately decorated with roses. The four legs are joined together to create the frame for the warming compote which has a flame adjuster. The pierced edges of the 'outer frame' are heavily decorated with acanthus-based foliage and carved shells on each corner. The first piece 'outer frame' is marked 'Alpacca' and is stamped with Otto Wolter's mark and the word "Versilbert" which is German for 'silverplate'. Also known as nickel silver, Alpacca has no silver content but is an alloy made of nickel, copper and zinc and has a unique silver-white color.
