This 7' decorative harpoon would make a nice accent piece to your nautical rec room or office. The handle is round (not shown) approximately 2 1/4" diameter burnished cedar pole with two coats of high gloss urethane. The shaft and tip are metal, the rope is 5/16" pure manilla whipped with black nylon cord.
Lewis Temple invented this harpoon tip which is named after him (Temple Toggle). A skilled blacksmith from New Bedford, MA, Temple a former slave, in 1848 created a new type of harpoon with a moveable head that prevented the whale from slipping loose. His harpoon was called "the most significant invention in the history of whaling and used by virtually every whaleman". Buy with confidence from the maker, your satifaction is assured.
