This is a 1937 Lionel 700E 5344 Scale Hudson. These engines were built to NMRA standards. The wheels were made for solid T-Rail track the flanges are very small. The wheels are not the same as on a 763E, they will be found only on the 700E or 700K Scale Hudsons. This engine is not to be run on tubular track. It was made the 1st year of production. The serial # is 761 probably made in the first week of production. It is absolutely straight as an arrow with no warping in the engine or the tender. The paint and stamping is original with virtually no wear. There is no fatigue in any of the wheels on either the engine or tender. There is nothing broken or replaced on this engine. The 1937 models were a standard above later production of these prewar 700Es. The rear window cab strut is recessed inward like the original so that the rear window could be slid back. Lionel had a casting problem with this and in 1938 decided to cast the rear window pane as thick as the front window pane. Original 1st year production models are very hard to find in this condition. The lettering is rubber stamped on both sides of the engine and it is virtually flawless. The beautiful paint luster to the first year engines was absolutely beautiful. They took extra care in painting these engines with beautiful thick enamel. There has never been any damage to this engine's rear cab corners. The wheels are
