the antenna is made on a cnc to make sure the spacing is very precise , the wire used is 1mm , the reflector is a 50 mm circle also cut on the cnc to ensure very precise measurements are kept. the impedance match is done by having the first 1/4 turn 1mm from the reflector. when the geometry is kept precise and the wire is 1mm the antenna is very good at picking up the 5.8 ghz band while ignoring higher and lower frequency noise. the wire is wound on a lathe and a custom former to keep it perfectly round. The feed point can either be done with the sma/rp-sma directly to the reflector or a whip with a bit of stiff wire can be added for those who want to mount it directly to the goggles for the whip/stiff bendable wire.
