8 Rosenthal '26 CHICAGO Lake Shore Athletic Club Plates This auction is for a set of eight elegant crescent or bone dishes made by ROSENTHAL, Germany for Chicago's Lake Shore Athletic Club in 1926; sold by the premier department store Marshall Field & Co (now Macy's). Each dish is just over 9" in length, about 4 3/8" at the widest point. The rim is edged with a gold and cobalt blue pattern, and t is a medallion depicting a discus thrower. Six of the eight are in excellent condition, with uniform pristine-looking gold and blue trim - apparently just very lightly used, well taken care of. Gorgeous! (Light areas are reflections in the photos.) Two show some wear to the decoration on a closer look, but are quite nice also; one of these two has a small surface chip at a bottom edge. Beautiful addition to a collection! As with most of our auctions: low start, no reserve. NOTE: my apologies to those who watched this auction recently: I had to cancel because I went out of town. We sell primarily vintage and estate items - most are not new/mint - they are pre-owned, and could show signs of age or use; occasionally may need a little cleaning.
