Up for my auction is a set of 8 signed Libbey water/ wine goblets. They stand 6 1/4 " high with a bowl width of 3'. Larger than most glasses you find. T is provenance to these glasses in that they came from the estate of Clint Murchison who used to own 1/2 interest in the Dallas Cowboys with his brother. I understand from people he was quite wealthy from oil in Texas and bought the Cowboys with that wealth. These are beautiful glasses and are in the " Venetta" pattern as shown in Martha Louise Swan's American Cut and Engraved Glass. The Libbey logo shows that they date between 1896 to 1900 with the rounded hand guard on the sword rather than the rectangular one. The signature is inside the bowl at the very bottom. Too dificult to take a picture of. They are shown on champagne saucers on page 195 fig. 266. The only difference is these glasses do not have the fluted stems. They have the solid stem but the cutting pattern on the bowl is the same. Just a different blank. They have hobstars, fans and crosshatching on them with a 24 point rayed star on the bottom. T is also notching on each edge of the stems themselves. They are all in great condition and are just looking for a new home. I cannot tell you that they ring like a bell because I don't bang on my glass with anything at any time. They would certainly be a wonderful addition to any collection. Especially with the provenance they have. Any white spots you see in the pictures are merely refections from the flash. These glasses are water white. Please write if you have any questions. Good luck and good bidding !!!
