8 Vintage Plycraft Norman Cherner Dining Room Chairs

This is a complete rare set of 8 Vintage Norman Cherner Chairs that have been in my family for almost 50 years. I inherited them from my uncle who lived in a pet free and childless home (but...he had great stuff). I am selling them in one lot in order to pass on the pleasure of enjoying them to you, as a complete set, at your dining room table. The set consists of two wool fabric covered arm chairs, and six side chairs. Four of the side chairs are covered in wool fabric, and two are uncovered in the natural wood. The chairs are ALL ORIGINAL , and not the modern day copies being produced. The chairs were manufactured by Plycraft and designed in 1958 by world renowned multidisciplinary designer Norman Cherner. He utilized an innovative technology to mold multi-layered plywood into a stylishly curved seat and back connected by a slim and sturdy throat. The graceful and solid curved bent arms and the slender laminated legs complete this work of Modern art .Cherner chairs are featured in residents, galleries, and museums around the world. Now, they can be in your home. They are simply the best!
Now.... for the details. The fabric is grey with a hint of sage, with texture and durability reminiscent of soft theater seating. The fabric does show some wear at pressure points in the seat construction. T are no rips, tears, or stains. One of the upholstered side chairs has been damaged at the place w the seat back meets the seat (see picture). It has been repaired, but is still a little loose. Uncle Jerry, the fellow who decided to feverishly rock back and forth in this chair, has been summarily executed. Please only bid if you are serious about acquiring this wonderful set of chairs. Feel free to ask any questions PRIOR to the auction closing. The buyer may elect to pick up the items within 10 days of auction close, or have them shipped via a local UPS store which will pack and ship the items.The arm chairs measure approximately 31 1/2" high by 261/2" wide at the widest part. The seat is approximately 18 1/2" deep. Each chair weighs approximately 11 lbs. The buyer is responsible for all packing, shipping, and insurance (required) fees at actual cost. T are no additional handling fees from the seller. Payment must be made within three days of auction close, or seller reserves the right to void the sale and re-list the item.
