This is an Original Noel Rockmore from 1972 Titled: Karen & Bartley New Orleans It is a 14 X 11 pen on paper and NOT framed but nicely matted. It is from the Shirley Marvin Collection and it is from her SketchBook #26 - Titled: 1 972 Paintings & Friends Portraits It is the 12th page of the Sketchbook and is signed, titled and dated 1972 by Rockmore. The catalog Number within the Shirley Marvin Collection given to this work is 72.809 This work was purchased directly from The Artist, Noel Rockmore, by Shirley Marvin and comes with a letter of authenticity. Who was Karen and why did Rockmore sketch her so often? At this time, we do not know who Karen was other than he sketched her with Bartley who could have been a boyfriend or just a friend. There have been a few stories of Rockmore sketching a couple or doing a commission work of someone’s spouse and invariably trying to seduce them as well. He was relentless and often quite successful, sometimes he was not but it certainly was not for a lack of trying. Chances are that Karen was someone who was in close proximity to where Rockmore lived or where he liked to hang out (Johnny Whites, Alpine, Pres Hall).
