8th Air Force Last Rites Sick Call Box Oak Vintage Religious Catholic Original 452nd Bomb Group Direct from the estate of a Chaplain of the 452nd Bomb Group. This is the original box he used in England during WWII to preform Catholic sacraments. The only date I could find is on the spoon, which reads: 1897 PAT'D . An original antique treasure. A beatiful piece which was displayed in the family's living room. The wood box measures twelve inches wide, fifteen inches tall, and seven inches deep. It was used on the priest's travels to visit the sick and the dying to give the sacraments or have communion. I don't know if it is called a Communional Sacrament Set or a Last Rites Sacrament set. The wood box is oak, with brass details; a brass cross on each door, brass hings and release catch. Outside is not chipped but t are some minor scratches and water damage on top probably from the rainy british weather. See the pictures, the front is nice with three doors. The bottom door flips down while each side door swings opposite each other. Inside is lined with purple velvet. Each door has a pocket and a white ribbon sash.the sash on the right door is torn. Inside is the following. Holy water spoon with silver plating and a cross engraved on the handle. It is marked underneath; "Sick Call Out Fit Special Metal Pat'd 97 Quadruple Plate Homan Silver Plate Co". This spoon measures four and one half inches long. Silver Plated Brush with cross on the handle. The bristles are most likely to be horse hair. Gold Plated pin with the Mother Mary. Silver plated dual candle stick holder, measuring thirteen inches tall, with detachable crucifix. The crucifix measures eight and one half inches tall. Also marked "Pat'd Nov 17, 1897" and the same markings as th spoon. Glass Stopped Holy Water Bottle; with silver trim accents and the words " Holy Water". This is stunning! Two plates, silver plate, five and one half inches in diameter. The plates are marked "Pat'd April 97" as is the spoon. These two plates are held to the back by two straps of red fabric. Oncluded also is an 8th airforce picture of father Kelleher , owner of the box. t was other 452nd Bomb Group items so that is why it is the 452nd Bomb Group. This is from the family's estate sale. Box contains everything necessary for the ritual of last rites. Overall this is a nice item. The silver plated items are tarnished, and may have lost some of their plating. This is a used itme and is decades old, so it is not brand new condition, but will display nicely. Sold as is, as described, and definately old.
