This is an 18th Century, or at the most a very early 19th Century "Bowet," Candle Lantern. Unlike, the tinsmith it was fashioned and constructed by a craftsman. It is made of maple wood, the bottom clearly birds's eye. The construction is mortise and wood pin driven, very typical of 18th century work. It appears that the glass is period to the piece, and that the only restoration was the top, w wire was applied to secure an early wood separation. The candle cup is mortised throught the bottom, and these are not common pieces of lighting pieces found in the market today. It is in very good condition. It is 11" high and 7" square.
