DESCRIPTION: T is still time to get ready for Holiday entertaining and gift-giving for that special person - even if that person is YOU!! I MADE AN EXTREMELY RARE FIND!!! I found a large ANTIQUE collection of HAND PAINTED NIPPON - Early Noritake- dinner in the CHRISTMAS BALL pattern. IT IS VERY RARE TO GET THIS MANY PIECES TOGETHER WITH THE NIPPON MARK. I will be selling the different pieces on separate auctions. On this auction are 27 pieces of rare and very collectible HANDPAINTED Nippon (early Noritake) dinnerware - t are 9 cups and 18 saucers. This classic pattern features a rich relief of heavy gilded gold banding of Christmas ornaments, flowers, and scrolls on a cream (creme yellow) and white band on a bone china white porcelain background. T is a raised beaded decoration around the rim and in the design. JUST MAGNIFICENT!! 8 saucers have a wider band and a little larger gold pattern/decoration. These saucers are 5 ½âe in diameter. These plates have only a little wear. The gallery picture is a stock picture that is exactly what the cup and saucer with this wider band looks like. For some reason, I could not upload my own picture to the gallery. The pictures in the item description are my actual photos of the pieces on auction. Sorry!!! T are 10 saucers that also measures 5 ½âe in diameter. These gold pattern is more narrow âe" the Christmas balls are smaller as is the rest of the design. T is quite a bit of wear on the gold and band. When you look at these plates from the side âe" some rims are white, yellow, and gold. None of these have marks at the bottom . T are 9 cups which measure 3 ¾âe in diameter and 4 ½âe wide including the handle âe" It stands 2âe tall -2 CUPS that have the classic green Noritake stamp âe" these were left over from my other group of Christmas ball dishes âe" vintage but not as old as the Nippon . You canâe(tm)t tell the difference between the two unless you actually look at the back stamp. The other cups are stamped with the blue NIPPON HANDPAINTED backstamp. This Art Nouveau design was first introduced around 1906. This very collectible but discontinued pattern was made by Noritake from 1906-1992. The Christmas Ball pattern, as it is known my its many collectors, is extremely sought after and highly collectible. Christmas Ball is also known as White & Gold, Christmas Ornament or is referred to by numbers such as 16034, 4 3061, and the newer 175. These pieces do not have the more commonly found green or gold backstamp which was used from 1914 - 1940. This backstamp is a blue mark with the center "Komaru" symbol that is said to be taken from the Japanese character "Komaru", meaning "overcoming difficulties". It is crowned with "HAND-PAINTED" and below the mark "NIPPON". According to the Noritake company tradition, this mark was designed when meeting the different culture of the west early in the 20th century caused many difficulties. this mark is also known asa the "tree crest mark" which is the clan crest of the Morimura family. According to recent information from the Noritake Company, the correct (current) term for this mark should be "Maruki". This is a very early mark- possibly the 1910's. (this information was taken from a website of Japanese Porcelain Noritake Marks). The mark pictured is representative of the mark found. My estimation would be 1913 or before because this blue NIPPON mark was used until the green backstamp "M" in wreath began in 1914 and was used until 1940. This makes these pieces between 1906-1913. AMAZING!!!! Just for information - on an internet replacement site each cup and saucer set would be $25.00 - $28.00 - saucers alone would be $9.00 These prices are the ones for the later pieces, #175 and others - not with this Nippon EARLY NORITAKE blue mark. I DON'T KNOW THE ACTUAL RETAIL VALUE OF THESE HANDPAINTED NIPPON PIECES - HAS TO BE HIGHER!!! You know that these pieces are from the early 1900's - "NIPPON" wa...
