0.9 g natural Baltic amber stone with Ant inclusion (IP-3731)

Amber with prehistoric insects and plants, and sometimes even small reptiles or animals, trapped inside (so called inclusions) is highly valuable and unique. Often such amber pieces are not processed by grinding or cutting. They are just washed and cleaned on the surface to make it more transparent so that the inclusion could be better seen. Inclusions originated ten millions of years ago, when insects, leaves, blossoms, or other parts of plants were trapped in pine resin and stayed there buried underground or at the bottom of the sea. The age of Baltic amber is 30-45 million years, therefore, extinct prehistoric fauna and flora trapped inside is of high archeological and palaeontological significance. Rareness of amber with fossil inclusions depends on the type of amber and the condition of preservation of such inclusion inside the amber.
