Selling on behalf of a local estate this 9 piece set is in the ETRUSCAN Albino Shell and Seaweed pattern, manufactured by Griffin, Smith and Hill, c. 1880's. The large plate measures 9 1/8" and the 8 small plates measure 6" in diameter. I photographed the set with and without the flash to try to give you the best indication of the condition of this old set. The large plate is the only piece with noticeable paint loss on the turquoise seaweed portion. Remarkably, most of the gold trim is still bright on almost all the pieces, with some wear to one small plate and the large...see photo for differences. White glaze color also varies between the small plates with some (normal!) discoloration. Apart from normal wear for pieces this age (PLEASE READ CONDITION INFORMATION TAKEN FROM THE COLLECTOR'S ENCYCLOPEDIA OF MAJOLICA, PG.8) the ONLY most visible nicks to 2 of the small plates is shown. ALL small plates contain the EARLIER Griffin, Smith and Hill mark without the circular Etruscan Majolica around it, per explanation and picture shown. This mark is the EARLIER of the two!! The large plate has the small mark in a circle. How fantastic to find so many matching pieces together!! Please feel free to ask any questions before bidding!!
