What an incredible piece this is. It is a solid 9K rose gold full Albert chain with attached medal. The chain is fully hallmarked with markings of the year of its creation, 1915, and the stamp of Birmingham, England, where it was forged. The attached, engraved medal is maker's marked B&S Ltd. (an English silver and goldsmith) and dated with the year 1921. The hand engraving work done on the face of the medal (unrelated to the maker) reads Burneside W. Greatorex 1921, the year of engraving consistent with that in which the medal was forged according to the hallmarks. The hand engraving could easily be buffed out and replaced with custom text or graphics. The rear side of the medal bears detail engraving work and an embossed shield shape, raised above the face of the medal.
The shear excellence of craftsmanship and sturdy weight of this piece make it work taking a closer look. The hallmarks are stamped meticulously throughout the piece, on the chain, medal, individually on links. The piece weighs an amazing 71.1 grams of solid rose gold. The rose color quality is beautiful. An Albert chain is used to anchor a gentleman's watch onto his waistcoat. They get the name “Albert Chain” in memory of Queen Victoria’s husband,Prince Albert, who was fond of wearing watch chains with his morningattire. However, in recent years, the Albert chain has been worn by women as a necklace . If worn as a necklace, the neck opening measures 16 inches. Please consider its use both as an Albert watch chain, and as a necklace for a lady or bold gentleman. The Albert chain and medal are in stunningly excellent condition, with little to no surface wear. There are no notable nicks or damages, the piece is truly in excellent condition. Weight: 71.1 grams, solid 9K rose gold. Length from bottom of medal to tip of clips: 27.5 centimeters. Medal face: 2.75 centimeters. If worn as a necklace: 16 inches.
