COLLECTOR QUALITY OVIRAPTOR MUSEUM QUALITY OVIRAPTOR EGG , 7" un-hatched fossil with POSITIVE CT Scans! F # 577 ... Cretaceous Period Nanxiang Basin, Guandong, China 2004... This auction features a magnificent fossil egg of the rarer, elongated raptor variety. The specimen is free of matrix; and since it has shell in place around the entire girth, it is most likely un-hatched. Is t a little embryo inside? Well, few have been found; however, it is an interesting possibility for this real egg. IN FACT,,,, I WAS SO INTRIGED THAT I HAD CT SCANS DONE,,, AND GUESS WHAT ???? The images clearly show that t is something in t! Remember that a CT scan is an image of a thin plane going through the fossil and is not like an x-ray which shows a 3-D silhouette. The cleaning, stabilization and restoration were done in the U.S. by a professional preparator. This egg is about 7 inches long, 3 1/2 inches wide and has a 8 inch girth; and so it is larger than most raptor eggs. It is covered with about 90 - 95% of its original shell. The Oviraptor dinosaur lived in the Late Cretaceous Period 65 million years ago. These raptors were bipedal animals and were probably omnivores (ate vegetation and meat).
