For auction I have a rare, LOADED and highly collectable find in excellent condition!!............An unused original vintage (ca. 1930s or 40s) black and white real photo postcard of traditionally clad, well documented veteran of the Nez Perce Resistance of 1877, Peopeo Tholekt (Bird Alighting) wearing a spectacular warbonnet and trailer, full otter skin braid wraps, full animal hide arm drape and a classic Plateau "loop" breastplate. The young Tholekt was a member of the Looking Glass band of the Nez Perce Nation, cousin to Chief Joseph, and an important messenger/warrior in most of the Nez Perce War of 1877. The Looking Glass village was situated a few miles from Kooskia, Idaho. Chief Looking Glass had hoped to stay clear of the war and the US military but they were attacked in July of 1877 by seasoned US Army Militia at the confluence of the Clear Creek and Clearwater River, Idaho. T is much to be said about this famous Nez Perce warrior but the photographer has simply inscribed "Indian Chief" in the bottom of the original photo. The original owner of the card and former trading post owner on the Yakama Reservation (1950-70), states on the back side of the card that "pyo pyo ta li kit fought in the Chief Joseph War" and he "met him @ Puyallup Fair (Puyallup, WA) in 1932 or 1933. The image looks to be taken in the early 1900's read more
