A 1750-1800 Wrought Iron Gridiron.

The gridiron was absolutely essential when cooking over embers in a fireplace. The earlier ones were made of iron to be heavy and heat resistant.This 18th century gridiron was used for meat and fish. The hot embers were drawn from the fire and the gridiron was placed over the embers for cooking. The features include the curled front feet and the chicken feet on the back of the gridiron. The piece is in excellent condition, it is 24" long x 11" wide x 3" high.
