A 16 size Pocket Watch - With 21 Ruby Jewel s A Locomotive is Beautifully Engraved on the Back of the Watch!! Circa 1923 Adjusted to Temperature & Positions Lever Set by the 1:00 Position Double Roller & Triple Sunk Dial Glass Crystal Hello, and thank you for taking the time to look at our listing! Overall Condition: This Burlington Watch Company pocket watch was made in Chicago, Illinois by the Illinois Watch Company . Its overall condition is from very good to excellent. I have worn this watch on and off for the past year, (as I do with all of my watches to test their performances & their accuracies), and I was very pleased with its performance! The exact details of the watch are noted below, section by section. Please take careful note of each section, as this watch is a Railroad Pocket Watch, or in other words; when it was built, it was subject to some of the highest requirements & standards of any watch made, with only slight exceptions, e.g. Chronographs, which are accurate to within a variance of totally accurate to within a few seconds per year! Railroad watches are also made under some of the most stringent standards, as peoples lives literally depended upon their accuracy, and a variance of just a few seconds could very well mean the difference between a clear passage and a collision !! Just to give you an example of only one of the stringent standards placed upon these watches that were to one day be designated as Railroad watches, they could only have a minimum variance of 30 seconds per week ! That is an amazing accuracy in itself (!) and that was but one of the stringent requirements that would be placed upon these watches that would one day be called Railroad watches! Dial: This is a triple sunk porcelain dial, which is the most sought after type of dial. Tfore, it has a top layer/ring which is the Chapter Ring. This ring shows the lines for the Hour & Minute Chapter Rings and then the Numerals for the hours, in this case they are Arabic numerals. The dial then has a center or inner circle, which shows the name of the watch company (e.g. the Burlington Watch Company in this case), and finally, it has a third sunken dial, for the seconds bit. The dial has a very minor chip so far outside of the Chapter ring that it is just barely visible when the crystal is screwed on. You can see it if you angle the watch and look between the 9 and the 10:00 positions. T are also two very slight hairlines on either side of the 3:00 position. In fact, they only showed up when I put my 10x loupe on (i.e. they were only visible to me at 10 times the magnification of normal sight). Movement: The 21 Jewel movement for this watch meets the very strict standards for a Railroad watch and the 21 jewels shows an additional amount of accuracy as the gears that they are attached to will have a very little to a minimal amount of friction. The movement is in excellent condition, except for some minor abrasions on the spring barrel and an ancillary winding gear. Case: The case is in very good condition with only some minor wear associated with a watch with far fewer years on it than this watch has! T are no major dings, dents, etc., that would make this case undesirable. In fact, I can see this case easily holding up in excellent condition for another century or two, if the owner would just show some common care to the upkeep to the case! I say this because when these watches were first made, their makers never intended them to still be in use 100+ years later. But they were made so well, especially compared with today's typical manufacturing process, that they could very easily keep running for another century or two.
