A most talented weaver used their skills on this market basket! The construction is the best I've seen in all my years of buying and selling baskets. The tight weaving, the mastery of the handle and the overall shape takes your breath away. This was found locally so I do not know the true origin...wish I knew that as well as the provenance but the early baskets were so seldom signed. I'd date this to before 1880. The true color is deep brown and truer in the inside photos.
Size: Top rim dimensions are 18-1/2" x 9-1/2". The height is 9-1/2 to the rim and 12" to top of handle. Without a doubt this basket has the nicest patina ever! The sheen you see is all patina; no varnish or coating of any sort. The condition is excellent mainly because the weavers are so tight and sturdy. T are some breaks in one row on the bottom but no holes or rim damage. This will be one of your best baskets ever! I ship to USA only. I have a very low reserve on this piece so have fun.
