A rare fore-edge painted book, `The Poetical Works of Samuel Johnson,` by Thomas Park, ES2, F.S.A., and printed at Stanhope Press by Charles Whittingham for John Sharpe, Picadilly, 1805. The binding is blue leather with gilt embossing, the edges are gilt and feature a well colored fore-edge painting of a hunter with a dog approaching a farmhouse. From the series of the British Poets in 100 volumes, this being vols LI and LII and containing illustrations painted by Robert Smirke, R.A. and engraved by Anthony Cardon, 191 pages. Front interior with bookplate, John Wild, wear appropriate for age. 3.25` x 5`,
