A Korean iron seated figure of Buddha seated on a lotus base and holding a lotus cup. This piece has traces of water gilding particularly on the face. T is some enamel decoration . This piece is in good condition with only the usual surface wear and some evidence of burial on the interior of the figure. This piece bears a close similarity to Chinese Ming figures of similar date but the square modeling of the face and the attitude of the hand and rendering of incised details on the robes convince me that the piece is Korean. Iron is a common material for Korean sculpture.17 th c. or earlier. Height 16.7 cm.
