DESCRIPTION Offered today is a lot of 4 cut glass inkwells with silver tops. 1. The first is a 2 5/8" square and is 3" tall. The pattern on the glass is a simple block pattern. The glass is in good condition save for some scratching on the base and a couple of small nicks on the very edge. The silver is cut a floral and leaf design. T is no monogram. The top wiggles a bit but could be tightened up. I have found no marks on the silver. It polishes like sterling, but in the absence of any markings, I will call this silver plate. 2. The second is 2 5/8" square by 2 3/8" tall, with a plain glass appearance and cut in a pyramidal shape. The glass is in good condition but has a couple of nicks at the corners of the base and a very small flake on the bottom as well. The silver is cut in a floral and leaf design and is marked sterling, with no other markings that I can find. The silver is in fairly good condition but has some dents around the outer edges. The cap does not close completely but I think that could be fixed. 3. The third one is a large 2 3/4" square by 4" tall plain cut inkwell with a sterling top. The mark is the word sterling and the numbers 2541. I think t is another mark between the numbers and the word sterling, but I cannot read it. The sterling has a monogram of EMC on the top. T are some dents around the edge and on the top, but t are no holes in the silver. The top is loose as well. The glass has some scratching on the base and some small nips on a couple of the corners. 4. The fourth 1 1/2" square by 2 3/8" tall and is cut in a plain pattern with a star cut in the base. The glass is in good condition. The silver is marked sterling and has the Meriden/Wilcox mark of the two W's with the S in the middle. The top closes cleanly. The fluorescence of these items is consistent with what is considered the gold standard for identification of glass from the brilliant period of American cut glass, namely a greenish color.
