A very rare STRONGBOX decorated with "PASTILLES" (wrought iron). 16thC This beautiful strongbox, decorated with "pastilles", is one of the classic objects that a collector of early works of art or metalware dreams to own. It is a splendid little piece of great charm and appeal ! It is without doubt made in France and dates back to the 16th century. It has a nice provenance, as it was recovered by a historical society from a castle in France. More details will be given to the eventual buyers. It has an interesting locking mechanism. T are 3 "straps" which lock the box. To the left, it opens by pulling the small foot on the underside. In the centre, t is a loop, thru which a small lock would have secured it and to the right t used to be a mechanism, which could be opened by pocking a pointy pin, thru the hole on the side. Unfortunately, that mechanism isn't working and the lock-plate can be opened by hand. Boxes such as this, rarely come onto the markets these days.
