Dating to the Civil War era (1860's), this Whig Rose Applique quilt is HAND PIECED & HAND APPLIQUED using cotton fabrics including Cheddar, Turkey Red, pink on pink (double pink), and overdyed green for the applique work, and bright white for the background. It even has a saw tooth frame! Measuring 81" x 76", it has a very thin cotton batting with seed fragments, a hand applied Turkey Red binding (worn), and a bright white back. HAND QUILTED with tiny squares on the applique work & background, and double angle quilting across the frame and border @ 9 very neat and very tiny stitches per inch counting just one side. PROFESSIONALLY HAND LAUNDERED , we found a couple light & tiny spots, thinning with some fabric pops on the Turkey Red pieces (not unusual for a Turkey Red of this age), and an old repair (see closeup of leaf repair). A previous owner hand stitched a sleeve for displaying on a wall (easily removed).
