This listing represents a first for me and is really truly rare WWII AAF find for the serious AAF or WWII collector. you have a true Army Air Forces Crusher Cap. However, this crusher cap is for an enlisted Aircrew member. I have listed a couple of true pilot crusher caps in the past couple of years but have never located one for an enlisted airman. I do not even have one in my own collection. (The sole reason I am not keeping this cap is simply that I am downsizing my collection so please check out my weekly listings for such vintage WWII treasures.) The visor absolutely rolls up like a newspaper. It is soft and pliable. The crown has no grommet. The cap has the time honored jaunty look that encapsulates a crusher cap. It represents a custom, private purchase and the cap is correctly sized as a 7. The cap features an Army Air Corps chinstrap to the rear. The crown is OD green fur felt. T is no moth damage, soiling, or staining to the crown. T is one spot from oxidation on the very back underside of the crown. T is a fabulous two piece, gold eagle cap badge in near mint condition. The cap has a russet leather strap above the visor with an adjustable russet leather chinstrap to the rear. One of the tabs for the strap has come loose. I have included a photo of it and will send it with the cap. You should be able to restitch it on. (I will leave that to the winning bidder.) T is a pair of air hole grommets on either side with brown paint. I would surmise the cap is officer's quality. If it had the wool OD band around the circumference it would be a pilot's crusher. T is a soft, pliable russet leather visor that easily rolls up. The stitching is intact. T are no crazing, warping, digs, scratches or gouges to the visor. The perforated, leather sweatband is still soft, supple and pliable. The stitching is intact. T is an amber sweat shield to the crown protecting a brown rayon crown. The sweat shield has cracked due to age and someone added a couple pieces of tape. T is a size tag on and under the sweatband. It is correctly sized as a 7. The sweatband reads EZ Cushion. It is hands down the finest enlisted service cap, AAF or GI, that I have ever listed and indeed the most rare. The cap looks great with and is just the item you need to complete an AAF Enlisted Class A Uniform. This hard-to-find, custom-tailored, enlisted AAF Dark OD Fur Felt True Crusher Cap with flexible visor and AAC chinstrap in about near mint condition would make a terrific addition, upgrade and/or completion to most any AAF Uniform or Cap Collection. It would be perfect for wear by re-enactors, and is absolutely ideal for your display, museums, and for educational and theatrical presentations.
