Up for bid is a Type D-12 Bendix Aviation Corp. flight compass used by the navigator in heavy bombers during WWII. INCLUDED is an excellent photocopy of the Operating Handbook (dated March 1945). COMPASS : This is an Army Air Force compass from WWII and was used in the big planes/bombers such as the B-17. This compass is in decent condition and still functions (points north). On the side opposite the manufacture tag it says "AFT" and t are two adjustment knobs that still seems to function. Per the pictures the heading dial is not pristine but all numbers and hash marks are perfectly readible. Per the picture, the manufacture tag reads: A.F. U.S. ARMY TYPE D-12 ORDER NO. AC-32752 MFR'S PART NO. 1832-1-A SPEC. NO. 94-27825 SER. NO. (note: I can't make out the serial number in the white box BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION ECLIPSE - PIONEER DIVISION TETERBORO, NEW JERSEY , U.S.A. "The measurements are 8" across including bottom brackets. The actual compass diameter is 6.5" and 4 3/8" tall including base.
