Three scarce items related to the famous clown, "Grimaldi." Grimaldi was one of the first clowns to use white-face, and although I'm not sure if the photograph is George H.Grimaldi Adams, he certainly was imitating him as a juggler. The son of the famous clown of Europe, Joseph Grimaldi (1778-1837), he did come to America and was in several small circus companies, the last being 'Tony Denier' c.1878-1880. The tradecard above shows Grimaldi in all his glory, and there is an ad on the back for the, "Humpty Dumpty Pantomime" with a printed listing on the back. Very small trim to this card on the left side. The other trade item is on thin paper with an obvious referal to Grimaldi, stating, "Poor Humpty feared to loose his prize...etc." The cabinet card has the imprint of Baker's Art Gallery of Columbus, Ohio and is c.1888.
