IT IS WITH GREAT PLEASURE THAT ARE ABLE TO OFFER THIS VERY SPECIAL VASE. Meriden is one of the foremost cutting houses of the American Brilliant Period. ((1870-1916). Only producing the finest in patterns, using the most complex and desirable motifs, Meriden has developed designs, styles, and shapes that are always sought. It was a division of Wilcox Silver Company. AND furthermore....Having made the Greek Key very famous in its "Alhambra" designs, it is likewise well known for designs in which a flashed star is dominant. Today we are offering just such a vase. First of all, we have found it to be flawless. Alhough there is always the possibility that a tiny flaw may have been overlooked, we feel fairly certain that there are no such issues of major interest to be noted. The vase is 10 inches in height and weighs over 4 pounds. The style include a moderately slender profile. its width is 4 inches at its upper opening and base. It narrows in the mid-area. One look and you will easily see that the blank has been mouth blown and that it is extremely fine, white water, clear and radiant. The blank is the initial essence of the item. The cutting and polishing, both by hand, are equal in quality. The complex motif consists of flashed stars vertically cut in the front and back panels with slightly more narrow side panels in which bullseyes are very notable. In the center of these columns there is a very impressive motif in which fans constructed of finely cut miters lie in the four fields created by an "X" crossed miter. Strawberry diamond and Brunswick stars are used as enhancements. The edging is sawtoothed and scalloped. Teeth are intact as is the pattern. The vase has been cut in a fully cut style. The miters are deftly cut, deeply and with expertise. All motifs have been produced in this same expert manner. AND SO ...it naturally follows that resonance, symmetry and balance, and reflective and refractive qualities are all superb, also. The vase is a joy.
