It was a setback for the young vaudeville comic-his partner was sick. But the show must go on, so the house cashier filled in. The cashier was Bud Abbott. The comedian was Lou Costello. And thus, one of the greatest comedy teams of all times, was born. Feisty fireplug Lou was the addle-brained one. Lanky Bud was the worldly straight man. Together, they brought the zaniness of real-life vaudeville to the screen. During the war years, Abbott & Costello regularly appeared on lists of Hollywood's top box-office performers; these lobby cards showcase the comics in their prime. Like a well-aimed pie in the face, the boys and their films hit the mark! These are my 2 favorite 11 x 14 lobby cards of all the ones I have owned from the movie World of Abbott & Costello. The World of Abbott & Costello is a compilation of scenes from eighteen films that Abbott and Costello made for Universal Pictures between 1941 and 1955. The films which scenes are taken from are: Abbott and Costello Meet FrankensteinThe Wistful Widow of Wagon Gap The Naughty Nineties Buck Privates In The Navy In Society Who Done It? Ride 'Em Cowboy Hit The Ice Buck Privates Come Home Abbott and Costello Go to Mars Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy Lost in Alaska Abbott and Costello in the Foreign Legion Little Giant Mexican Hayride Comin' Round The Mountain Abbott and Costello Meet the Keystone Kops The first card is in excellent condition with no pin holes, tears, or tape marks. It is labeled #6 and features Frankenstein's monster holding Bud & Lou by their collars. This is my all time favorite shot from any Abbott & Costello movie. This is the only lobby card I have seen with this shot so even if you bought the Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein lobby cards you would not get this picture. Years ago their was a dealer at the Chiller Theater convention in NJ that had a statue depicting this very scene and I didn't buy it thinking I would get it at a future show. Unfortunately he never returned & I have been kicking myself ever since for not buying it when I had the chance. Bid now so you won't feel the same way when someone else buys these cards and you lose your chance at owning some great Abbott & Costello merchandise from the film Abbott & Costello fans around the world voted as their favorite. The second card is also in excellent condition with no pin holes, no tears, and no tape marks. This card is labeled #8 and depicts the famous candle scene. This was always one of my favorite scenes whether it was in this movie, Hold That Ghost, or on their TV show. Having Bela Lugosi as Dracula brought the film to a different level as he had already portrayed Dracula in the movies so fans were familiar with him in the role. The pictures do not do justice to how good these cards look so I will be happy to email individual pictures to anyone who is interested in bidding on this auction. The bottom of both cards read "Property of National Screen Service Corp. Licensed for display only in connection with the exhibition of this picture at your theater. Must be returned immediately tafter." I purchased this card plus others, which I will be posting soon, back in 1987 from a movie memoribilia dealer and it has been keep in plastic since then. ***As an added bonus the winning bidder will also receive a very rare Filmfax Magazine from Sept. 1990, which has a 6 page article on all the Abbott & Costello meet the monster movies. It also has a review of the Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein Original Shooting Script book*** ***The winning bidder will also receive a desktop standee featuring Bud & Lou holding 3 cassettes to promote their release on MCA Home Video. They movies they are promoting are Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein, Buck Privates, and Hold That Ghost. It doesn't have a date on it but I got it in the late 80's when I worked in a video rental store. This is not something that was sold in store...
