This portrait was from a sitting in 1860 just after Lincoln's election as 16th President who then served from 1861-1865. It was originally lithographed between 1860-1865 or later in 1880-83. I inherited this from my Grandmother's attic in Illinois shortly before she died in 1976. I asked her why such a wonderful picture like this was in her attic. She said her first husband was against Lincoln because he freed all the coloreds! But she was very fond of Lincoln herself having grown up in Kentucky about 30 miles from w Lincoln was born. I had it reframed in the 1980's because the original frame was very dilapidated and I feared the print itself might get damaged. The new frame is simple but elegant in gold, brown and black colors which I did not capture very well in these photos. Ditto for getting a good photo of portrait without the flash causing difficulties. The time that Lincoln sat for this portrait is very interesting I think. Having grown up myself in Illinois, I was always proud of and intrigued by Lincoln's life. I visited his Springfield home and offices several times. This portrait was commissioned as an official portrait to be used throughout government offices such as post offices, courthouses, etc. It was done sometime after Lincoln was elected in November 1860 but before he was sworn in for office in January 1861.
