Antique ABP Brilliant Cut Sawtooth Pitcher
We were told this item was Waterford when we purchased it, however we cannot find a Waterford etching on the piece. We are not sure whether this is a sign of its age or if it is in fact made by someone else. The rim of the pitcher is cut in the classic sawtooth pattern. The piece measures roughly 8 1/4" tall with the top 3 1/4" being heavily detailed and the bottom 5" consisting of evenly cut crystal V's in the glass spaced 1/2" apart. The most intricate portion of the cut crystal consists of a diamond bordered pattern filled with a radiating lattice pattern of triangular and diamond cuts. The glass tapers down along the inside of the diamond until it reaches the center where there is a 1 1/8" circle relief which rises almost 1/4" from the surface. The crystal is very thin right at the base of the circular relief. The center of the circle is cut with a 16 pointed/petalled star/flower I'm not sure which it was intended to be. This pattern is repeated on either side of the pitcher. The diamond shape is bordered by cut crystal V's which extend until it reaches the conjoining diamond. In between these intersections are other reliefs with 7 petaled flowers patterned symmetrically along them. That probably all sounded like gibberish but it was my best attempt at describing the intricate cuts of this brilliant cut piece. The handle has abrasive small <1/16" sawtooth grips on each of its squared ends and measures approximately 6" tall. The bottom has another star burst pattern on it and measures 5 1/8" in diameter. The top measures roughly 4" in diameter and 6 1/2" from the top of the spout to the back of the handle. The piece is in good condition and shows very well. There are however several small nicks in the lower portions of the sides the largest of which is still <1/16". Most 1/32" or smaller.
