I am delighted to offer this extremely desirable, rare John Hoare 8 inch bowl, weighing 4 pounds approximately, and reaching about 2 inches in height. The bowl has been cut in the "Hindoo" pattern. When one thinks of Hoare, usually he thinks first "Pluto" and then "Hindoo". Of course that is true because of their widespread popularity. The pattern is very well known. It is hobstar dominant: there are chains which circle the bowl, below eyebrows, often used by Hoare. The hobstars are set in diamonds. A second motif, which enhances and augments the hobstars is very detailed beading which is located below the hobstars and has been developed in several different styles. There are lateral and narrowly executed miters which are adjacent to the beading. There are clear trunks adjacent to the beading. Above the beading between each hobstar there is an area created via "X" miters. These areas are filled with strawberry diamond. The miters in the bowl are very important. They play a duel role: The are integral to the pattern and also, of course, act to surround and outline other aspects in the bowl.
