This is a Gorgeous American Brilliant Cut & Engraved Perfume Bottle signed Hawkes!! The solid sterling silver lid is adorned with white enameling encircling a beautiful blue guilloche center, the bottle has a solid sterling silver collar which is marked STERLING UDALL & BALLOU, who w Boston Silversmiths. I am told this mark dates this perfume circa 1890's. The perfume bottle also has the original cut glass stopper which is marked HAWKES on the base. All three pieces are original to this perfume. The bottle is of the finest water clear blown crystal that is exquisitely engraved with floral swags & borders, the bottom is deeply cut with alternating ovals & vertical grooves that enhances the prism brilliance beautifully, and the base is cut with a deep 16 point radiant star. The glass is thick and feels quite substantial in your hand,and the form of this perfume bottle is just Stunning!! The condition is Excellent! The glass is pristine, t are NO Chips,NO Cracks,NO Scratches,and NO residue or staining. T is good wear to the outside edges of the base as would be expected for a piece of this age. I have looked the glass over very closely by loop and feel and could only find two Very minute pinpoint areas of roughness on the high edges of the groove cuts around the bottom of the bottle, these can be felt but not seen and are mentioned for accuracy of description. T are NO heat check cracks inside of the neck under the sterling collar that are sometimes seen in overlays of this type. The stopper is also Pristine without any damage of any kind ,not even roughness, and it fits perfectly into the neck without any looseness at all. The sterling collar & lid is free from dents or dings and shows just some minor age appropriate surface wear along the collar base from the lid being placed on and off over the years. The sterling silver lid is in near perfect condition, the only issue is a small amount of wear to the white enameling that encircles the blue guilloche center, the enameling in those areas shows some light crazing and some enameling is missing, as can be seen in the photos below, t is no damage to the sterling in those areas and I believe the enameling could be refilled in those areas if you wished to do so. The blue guilloche center is in excellent condition with no loss or wear. Overall, this perfume is in remarkable condition and was evidently well cared for over the years!! The perfume measures 5 1/2" Tall with the lid, 5" Tall to the top of the inside stopper without the lid, and is 3 1/4" wide at the widest part, the base is 2" in diameter. This is a very high quality Hawkes American Brilliant cut glass & Sterling Silver Guilloche enameled perfume bottle that will be an asset to the finest of collections!!
