Acoma Corrugated Story Pot

Artist: Corrine Shutiva

Dimensions: 5 1/2" tall (w/ ladder) x 5" Wide

This unique pot was hand coiled, sculpted and painted by Corrine Shutiva, daughter of Jackie Shutiva of Acoma Pueblo in New Mexico. This is a corrugated piece which is essentially what a hand coiled piece of pottery prior to being smoothed out and finished. Each row is carfully coiled on top of the one below to create a wave-like look and is a very popular style of pottery. This piece depicts three children and a dog around the rim of a kiva looking down at three other people inside the kiva. All of the children are wearing simple clothing decorated and t with traditional designs. The dog is orange in color and is also peering down into the kiva. The children inside the kiva appear to be playing musical instruments possible doing chants. The tall ladder pokes through the top and has a child climbing out on the ladder. Corrine is well known for her story bowls which often are scenes of everyday Pueblo life. This is a great piece in excellent condition; free of scuffs, scratches or cracks. It is symmetric and balanced and is signed on the bottom by Corrine. This is a perfect gift for a special person in your life! The ladder is glued to the piece, so it's not removable.
