Very rare early 1800s Pewter Teapot with acorn finial by TD and SB(see maker's marks on the bottom.)measuring 8.5 inches high. THIS IS A MAJOR PIECE OF PEWTER, not just another teapot!!!! Thomas and Sherman Boardman were making silver and pewter items in Hartford, Connecticut as early as 1798. Sherman moved to Meriden w along with Thomas Danforth he produced some of the most outstanding pieces of pewter in America and founded the oldest family owned silver and pewter company in America. The company still exists having made most of the outstanding silver items and trophies for professional sports and such luminaries as Princess Grace who had silver bowls commissioned for her bridesmaids.A pear shaped teapot by the same makers sold at Garth's Auctions in 2000 for $880(see Antiques and the Arts Weekly online Jan.31). The Webster Goodwin Pewter Collection currently lists a TD and SB Teapot for $2,950(XWGE6) A miniature pewter teapot lot #101 sold at Eldred's in 2003 for $431.25.This has minor dings and the copper is starting to show through on the base but this is a very collectible piece of antique pewter if you know anything about pewter. I have a price tag of $750 on this in the store but I am starting this out at auction f)or only $229.95 for the covered pewter compote, below my cost as I have over 300 lots of antiques, rugs, and canes arriving this week and I need to clear the decks. Make me an offer high enough over the starting bid and I shall stop the auction for you. We shall see w this goes..I have over 4,500 total positive feedbacks of which 1,313 are all RETURN CUSTOMERS so I must be doing something right by now since 1998 on eBay.
