Adams ~ London ~ Surveyors Compass c.1790-1820 An amazing miniature tripod type surveyors compass - over-all, stands slightly less than 5" tall with leveling base. I believe that when first made, this compass had a telescopic scope - instead of the 1-1/2" tall sight vanes it has now....but thats only a guess. Made by Adams - London- which Adams is unclear, t are many undated instruments signed "Adams"; it is impossible to tell whether George 1, George 2, or Dudley Adams is the maker in question - See: ADAMS 2- Websters Database Alder Planetarium. Over-all condition is excellent .....some very light spotting and scratching on the brass, a few very minor nicks and dings. The screws that hold the sight vanes become loose very easy... T is a missing mini screw underneath compass on the out rim...of the 23 some odd screw heads underneath - 4 or 5 of screw slots on the screw heads have slight damage. T is a hole or casting pit underneath compass dial - opposite near the West point. A trace of black paint missing from the top of the magnifier eye piece. Leveling Base portion - - - Over-all condition, is excellent .....some very light scratching on the brass, a few very minor nicks and dings.
