Hyman George Rickover [1900 1986] was an United States Navy admiral and naval pioneer who directed the original development of naval nuclear populsion and controlled its operations for three decades as director of the Naval Reactors along with overseeing the development of the Shippingport Atomic Power Station, which was the world's first commercial pressurized water reactor. Admiral Rickover began his military career in 1918, and is known as the ''Father of the Nuclear Navy'', which has produced over 200 nuclear powered submarines, 23 nuclear powered aircraft carriers and cruisers. On November 16, 1973, Rickover was promoted to a four-star admiral after 51 years of commissioned service and was the longest serving naval officer in U.S history with 63 years of active duty. Listed for auction is a book signed by Admiral Rickover titled The Atomic Submarine. The book is a First Edition which was authored by Rickover and was released in 1954, and is signed ''H.G Rickover'' in blue pen on the title page. The book is a hardcover with 277 pages and measures 6.00 x 9.00 inches. The paper-cover has expected wear, the hardcover is in very good condition with trivial soiling and the pages have trivial toning, overall in very good condition.
