From an estate sale in Houlton, Maine when I went to visit my folks, I have had this Adorable shabby country style primitive style bench for 8 years and just now decided to part with it. The lady told me it was made from old plank boards by her husband, who made benches and sold them locally from the 1940s to the 1980's. His occupation was a carpenter and he would reuse old wood to make the benches, and she sometimes helped with the painting. I bought about 6 benches, she must have had about 50 of them, all shapes and sizes. Her husband had passed and they were just sitting in the garage. I wish I could have fit them all in my truck because I would have brought them back with me but I couldn't. This bench caught my eye because the paint is like a mottled shiny blue, it has darker blue running through it sort of as if she/he didn't stir the paint good enough when it was applied. It has heavy legs and a plank style top, the sides or accents are made out of thinner wood sort of like shims and vary in size from one end of the bench to the other, 15" long almost 8" tall and about 6" deep if you are counting the sides. definately has old knotholes, age 'spots' in the wood, and imperfections that are natural to the old boards used. This looks like a tiny bench that a child would step on to brush their teeth, or that you would see next to read more
