A very rare porcelain teapot by Adrian Saxe for the National Manufactory of France, Sevres. This teapot, executed in 1987, features Saxe's signature incorporation of disparate elements from various historical periods of decorative art. In this example Saxe combines the gold elements from the classical eighteenth and nineteenth century work of Sevres with a hand-painted faux wood grain indicative of the furniture of the French Deco period. The teapot is then provided with a modernist finishing touch in the form of a whimsical profile of a human face. Marked as shown. Approx. 13" in height. Mint Condition . A photograph of Adrian Saxe holding a version of this teapot is featured in the current issue of Ceramics Monthly as part of an article on the upcoming three-part documentary on PBS entitled "Craft in America: Expanding Traditions." Adrian Saxe is one of the featured artists in this program.
