It's basically an aesthetic movement form and dates to the late Victorian era. It's made of cherry wood, with a large splat back that descends to a modified pierced heart shape. It has decorative spindles on the arms and decorative stretchers between the reeded tapering legs. It has an attractive oxblood leather seat that is applied with decorative nailheads. This chair would make an exceptional desk chair, accent chair or even dining chair (t is only one though). It has an exceptional silhouette and the wood as well as the leather have rich aged patina. Don't miss this brilliant chair! Age (circa) c1890 Dimensions 22" wide X 24 " deep X 34" High to the top of the back while the seat is 16" High. Condition Excellent original condition . Original finish has a beautiful patina. Neither the wood nor the leather has any damage. It is sturdy. All spindles fit well. It is missing a few nailheads on the upholstery ... easily replaced and it isn't loose despite this. Provenance This item is from an exceptional historic home on Long Island's Gold Coast . The Mills House is one of the most historic homes in the region. Built in 1719 on a large pond, this beautiful home still has many of its original features including wide plank chestnut floors. It's built on several acres and still has the old family cemetery on the grounds. It's been owned by the same family since the 1920s.
