A nice example of Victorian silverplated tableware, this domed serving bowl is sure to grace any collection of Aesthetic Movement design. The size and condition are impressive alone but it is the unique handles on each side that catch the eye of an admirer. Each handle turns on a pin hinged support so the server may safely deliver a hot dish to the table. They move stiffly enough so that they don't "swing" and bang against the supports. As you can see from the pictures, the Aesthetic Designs on both the handles and the embossed band that circles the bowl have an Egyptian influence as is typical of the period. The top of the dome has a hefty knob finial. A removable inner rim once hid the edge of a glass bowl insert (no longer with this piece); the bottom is stamped "Mf'd & Plated by Reed & Barton" and numbered 285. The bowl measures 10 1/4" in diameter; it is 17 1/2" from handle tip to tip when they are extended; it is about 9 1/2" to the top of the finial. Condition is excellent with no silver loss and no dents or bruises. T are some minor scratches on the inside of the bowl and what looks to be a tarnish mark from an old label - I could not remove it with silver polish. This elegant serving dish just begs to be used for a delicious recipe at the center of your dinner party! I will respond to all questions, comments and concerns.
