Quite unusual, if not to say rare, Aesthetic Movement playing card holder with original silver score-keepers intact. This item dates probably from the late 1880's or early 1890's. The box container is in the form of a book with an album type of fastener. The cover of the box is a King of Spades playing card in relief. Within the box a stamped silver double-dialed scorekeeper covers the deck of cards. Because the blank side of the cards are decorated with a picture of a Canadian Pacific Hotel, Chateau Frontenac in Quebec, it is likely that the deck of cards is either from the hotel, or possibly from a Canadian Pacific train or ship. It is unknown whether the deck of cards is original to the box, but they are sufficiently old to be appropriate and were included when I acquired this set. The silverplate is original, slightly worn, but not in need
