Pair, Aesthetic FrameLate Victorian circa 1870- 1890 Overall size is 11 7/8" X 14" Rabbet size is 8" X 10" (w/ standard 1/8" allowance) Molding width is 2 1/4" Molding depth is 1 1/4 " A single piece of molding comprise the construction of this frame. Wood Lacquered graining over gesso Cassetta style panel with foliate re-cutting and rosettes Deeply Coved gilded liner in Silver gilt ***Caveat: Gesso loss is prevalent. Good original finish with age appropriate surface wear.Each frame embodies a flavor of masculine Victorian curiosities and oddities, as with these French matted specimens with marbled border and gold wash lines.Invoking the rigors of the wild are displayed two hand colored etchings, "The Hyena of Albara" and "The Brown Hyaena". The refinement of the presentation is offset by the rather crude subject matter, and the time-tested encasement that is the frame - a perfect marriage.
