AESTHETIC JAPANESQUE BROWN TRANSFER PLATTER WITH BIRDS, BAMBOO AND A GEOMETRIC BORDER. CONGO is a rarely seen transfer pattern, with a bold design of birds, foliage and geometry in the Japanesque taste. It is a bold, exciting design. Asymmetrical segments depicting nature, with chubby birds, exotic leaves, probably bamboos, alternate with geometric insets, with stylized rosettes, border designs, fan shapes, square shapes, almost Florentine leafy design. To top it off, t is a central motif with a darker geometric design with triangular shapes, divided by a diagonal band of daisies and a fan shape, plus an inset of a crane in tall grasses, and a lone spring blossom. And yet, the broad outer band, and the inner rondel serve to curtail the variety and abundance of motifs in a central design. The platter is 13" in length. Marks include a diamond registration mark and CONGO in blue ink, and a pattern no. impressed in the clay, F & H, (Maker's mark?) and 7? The maker may possibly be Forester and Hulme, who operated in Fenton, between 1887 and 1893. Each and every question deserves a quick response! Now for some practical details.
