This spectacular tea set was made by Rogers Smith probably sometime between 1862 and 1877. The bottom mark reads Rogers Smith New Haven Conn. and according to Edmund Hogan's book on Silverplate the company was in New Haven between those years. It is decidedly aesthetic in style with birds and flowers embossed in bands and along the spouts. Given it's age it is in good shape. The one dent was at some point repaired and the bottom photo shows the tiny marks left by the silversmith who pounded it back out. All lids are t, intact, in round and well hinged. The insides are very usable and clean. Details are sharp as this has not been replated. T is some plate wear but I much prefer the small scuffs to replating and the loss is not obvious possibly because this may have been plated over nickel silver. Even areas that look as though they maybe worn still take a shine. This is a beautiful set complete with coffee pot (about 10 1/2 by 9 1/2 with a 4 3/4 diameter), teapot ( very slightly smaller), sugar bowl with lid (8 3/4 by 7 1/2 with 4 1/2 diameter), creamer ( 5 by 5 3/4 with 3 diameter) and spooner ( 5 by 6 with 3 diameter). I have owned this beautiful set for quited awhile and it has seen showers and weddings but it is not my only set and it is time to downsize. (I'm hoping I'm done with weddings and showers!)
