AFRICAN ART ASAFO FRANKAA WAR FLAG " FANTE " GHANA For larger item view please A nice recent made Asafo flag ( Asafo frankaa ) from Ghana . This flag was used in Festival times in Cape Coast area. The flag is in very good condition, with few stains and wear due to usage. The flag has both machine and hand sawing. Our flags ( Both recent and old ) come directly from the flag makers ( That they sawing flags for many generations for the Asafo companies ) that are replacing the older flags with new ones. The size of the flag is 58" x 35" ( 147 cm x 89 cm ) Check out the other Asafo Frankaa in my Store!! History of Asafo frankaa Asafo " companies " were military organizations of AKAN formed by young FANTE men in order to protect the state ( Town ) against local enemies and by the ASANTE people. Each side of the flag shows a mirror image. The materials used to make this " patchwork " flags were mostly imported cloth. The Flags were used during the installation of a new Asafo Captain , during festivals , funerals of a companies member and during other traditional events. After the independence from the British the Union Jack was replaced with the Ghanaian tricolor flag. A real piece of Authentic African art !!!!
