PENDANT MASK IVORY PIPE HEAD CONGO AFRICA This very rare old ivory pipe head is carved in the Pende style and has seen much use. The pipe itself is most likely from the 1800's and rubbed well and smooth. Like most African items, this pipe would have been a Treasured and Highly Revered piece, and as it has an Ancestor Figure represented, it was most likely used in ceremony. Tobacco use in Pende was uncommon and reserved only for those of elite status and Shamanic Medicine Men. The pipe stem, which was probably wooden, is missing from this piece. This is an old Tucson Estate item from a prized African collection. This item will be shipped insured, with confirmation. The pipe is 2 1/4" high, 1 7/8" wide and 1 1/4" deep.
