A Genuine Ritual Knife from DR Congo with Leather Sheath. The knife (including handle) is about 12” long and the holder is 8”. I do not know the age of this knife, but it was purchased about 30 years ago and was old then – this is not a tourist item. The primative hand-carved handle of the knife is a hard dark wood or animal bone (??) The blade of forged iron is very slightly loose in the handle. The leather holder is beautifully edged with woven vegetable fibers and decorated with cowrie shells and a hand-carved face (possibly animal bone). A beautifully executed example of tribal weaponry and art! I am sorry, that I previously had it listed as Ethiopian since most of my husband's knife collection is from Ethiopia, but he purchased this one on a trip through the Congo before we met.
