Up for auction is a beautiful yoruba beaded crown. It has a base circumference of 36 inches, a length of 27 inches from the top to the dangling beaded strings, and a length of 17 inches from the top of teh crown to the circular base. The whole crown was handmade, and an incredible level of skill went into making it. I have sold many yoruba beaded articles on ebay and up to date i'll have to say that this is the most impressive as an incredible amount of imagination and time went into it Ola is the name of the artist who made this piece. The piece has been preserved very well, and I would be more than happy to send you more close up pictures of the piece Some facts about the belts and thier use: Ife diviners and Yoruba Priests wore these crowns while performing ritual ceremonies and divination, then hung them as a wall hanging to both honor the spirits of the piece and protect and bless the dwelling and its inhabitants. Often given as a gift from the King to these important and respected subjects. Yoruba Beadwork states "Orisha" blessed mankind with the use of beads and their use is restricted to those whose spiritual powers enable them to move across the boundary that separates men from gods, the secular from the sacred. (Orisha is the generic name for a deity and not a king.) It was one of the "Orishas", Olokun (god of the sea) or Obalufon that gave humans the gift of beads. Bead usage was limited to kings, priests and priestesses, and certain diviners." Serious bidders only. I will charge a fixed $25 to ship to the lower 48 states, and I will be willing to ship this piece to any part of the world. If you want me to send you more pictures pls send me and e mail. I can also answer most of your questions I just had to include that pictues do not show how beautiful this crown, if any of you live in NM and would like to see this particular crown I would be more than happy to show you. Thanks!!! I personally carried this crown in my carry on luggage from Nigeria to make sure that it was not damaged in any way. Shipping might seem a little high because of all the time and effort taken to preserve it. If you need any pictures please send me an email to kogibankole(at) and ill send whatever you request.
